Bhadrachalam is associated with Lord Shri Ram and is a major religious place of Hindu faith, located in Khammam district of Telangana. The Bhadrachala Ram Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, is a very popular place. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Goddess Sita is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.
The Bhadrachalam virtuous region is also known as the "Ayodhya of the South". This place is a reverence center for the number of devotees. It is believed that this is the place where Rama spent a long time of exile by making a deciduous. Lord Shri Ram had been making his foliage in the 'Parnashala', located a short distance from Bhadrachalam.
There are some such rocks also, which are believed to have been dried by Sitaji during his exile here. There is also a belief that Sita was abducted by Ravana from here itself.
The temple town of Bhadrachalam is situated on the banks of the river Godavari. It was part of the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh until 1959. Although there are many temples in Bhadrachalan, the Sri Sita Ramchandra Swamy temple is the most famous here.
MYTHOLOGICAL STORY:-
Legend has it that the city was once part of the Dandakaranya forest. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama and Goddess Sita lived in this forest for some time during their exile with their brother Lakshman. Many people believe that the forest area near the temple of Lord Rama is the same place where Lord stayed with his wife and his brother for a few days. It is some 32 km from the temple. Lord Rama built a residence here for his family. This is the same hut from where Ravana kidnapped Sita and took her to Sri Lanka.
A man-woman is associated with the forest dwellers about the emergence of the temple here. According to this, a Ram Bhakta forest dweller lived in the village of Dammakka Bhadireddypalem. This old woman adopted and raised a boy named Rama. One day Ram went to the forest and did not return. While searching for the son, Dammakka reached the forest and started wandering, calling "Ram-Ram". That's when he heard a voice from inside a cave saying "Mother, I am here".
On searching, there were found statues of Sita, Rama and Lakshmana. Seeing them, Dammakka became filled with devotion. At this time, he found his son also standing in front. Dammakka pledged to establish the deity idols at the same place and built a temporary temple by making a bamboo roof. Gradually the local forest dwellers started worshiping Shri Ram on that hill called 'Bhadragiri' or 'Bhadrachalam'. Later, They made Bhadrachalam a bridge for the union of the forest dwellers.
The second recognition is associated with the city of Bhadrachalam, that is of Lord Vishnu and his devotee Bhadra. Bhadra was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama who was a sage. God meets Bhadra on his way to Sri Lanka to save Sita.The sage prayed to the Lord to sit on his head. However, in a hurry to save his wife, Prabhu told him that, on his way back, they would fulfill his wish. However, this could not happen, and the sage continued to worship Lord Vishnu to get a glimpse of the Rama avatar of Vishnu.
It is believed that, influenced by Bhadra's devotion and penance, Lord Vishnu appeared to his devotee in the incarnation of Lord Rama along with wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. God had announced his arrival while playing a conch.
Lord Bhadragiri was seated on top, his wife on the left side of the lap and his brother on the right. The incident is believed to have taken place many years ago, after the end of Rama's rule. The name of the city is derived from the name of this devotee of Lord Rama.\
