Haridwar is made up of two words, Har + Dwar, here Har means Shri Hari Vishnu Ji. According to beliefs, it is said that Lord Vishnu's foot had landed on Har Ki Pauri, so it is called Har Ki Pauri. Apart from this, Haridwar is one of those 4 holy pilgrimages, where a drop of Amrit fell. Haridwar is also the place from where the holy river Ganga flows. All these qualities make this pilgrimage more sacred.
