HAMPI THE CITY OF TEMPLES

Hampi is a city of temples derived from Pampa. Pampa is the old name of the Tungabhadra River. Hampi is situated on the banks of this river. Hampi is also mentioned in the mythological text Ramayana as the capital of the monkey kingdom Kishkindha. Perhaps this is the reason why there are many monkeys here. Even today, God is worshiped in some temples in Hampi. Let us know about some temples…

Vittala swamy temple -

Vitthalaswamy's temple is the highest in Hampi. It is a symbol of the glory of Vijayanagar and the climax of Kalavabhava. The etching of the Kalyanamandap of the temple is so subtle and dense that it is made on sight. The inner part of the temple is 55 feet long. And in the middle of it there is a high altar. The chariot of the Vitthal god is cut out of only one stone. The lower part of the temple is etched all over.

There are many small temples inside this huge temple which are even older than the Virupaksha temple. There is a huge stone Nandi in the east of the temple while on the south side there is a huge statue of Lord Ganesha. Here is a 6.7 meter high statue of Narasimha.
