It is necessary to request blessings from one's ancestors by performing Shradh on Pitra Paksha.
By doing these works the ancestors are pleased and they get their auspicious blessings in life. By performing Shradh, there is happiness and peace in the family. Dogs, cats, cows and any animal should not be killed or harassed even by mistake during Shradh Paksha i.e. Pitra Paksha.
It is very beneficial to give food and water to crows, animals and birds in Pitra Paksha, the ancestors are satisfied by providing food.
The person who performs Shradh for ancestors should follow celibacy in Pitra Paksha.It is auspicious to follow complete sattvikta in food.
During Pitra Paksha, meat, fish, alcohol etc. should not be consumed during this time.

During the period of Pitra Paksha, food of gram, lentils, mustard greens, sattu, cumin, radish, black salt, gourd should be discarded.
This place has a special importance in Shradh rituals, it has been told in the scriptures that by performing Shradh and Pind Daan, ancestors get salvation, like Gaya, Prayag, Badrinath etc. But those who are unable to go to these places for anyone. They can perform tarpan in the courtyard of their house or anywhere on their land. Keeping these things in mind, Shradh Karma always gives auspicious results.
