In Hindu Dharm, the festival of Janmashtami is considered extremely auspicious, which falls on the Ashtami tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the creator of the world. This year, the holy festival day of Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on 4 September 2026. According to religious beliefs, Bal Gopal was born at midnight on Janmashtami in conjunction with Rohini Nakshatra. There is a tradition of observing a fast on this day, performing abhishek of Laddoo Gopal with Panchamrit, and decorating it beautifully.

Makhan-Mishri

Makhan is very dear to Kanha since childhood. Offering mishri with fresh makkhan during Nishita Kaal Puja on the night of Janmashtami is considered extremely auspicious, as this brings sweetness in life and creates an atmosphere of happiness and peace in the family.

Coriander Panjiri

Coriander Panjiri Prasad is specially prepared on Janmashtami. It is made by roasting dried coriander powder, desi ghee, mishri, makhana, and dry fruits. In astrology, coriander seeds are considered to be related to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Offering Coriander Panjiri removes financial difficulties and increases wealth at home.

Charanamrit and Panchamrit

Panchamrit, made from raw cow's milk, curd, desi ghee, honey, and sugar, is a significant part of Bal Gopal's anointing and prasad. Consuming Panchamrit keeps the body healthy and destroys all the sins of a person.

Makhana Kheer or Mewa Paag

Kanha is very fond of Makhana Kheer or Makhana-Paag prepared with milk, makhana, saffron, cardamom, and dry fruits. Offering this brings the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu, which removes all the difficulties in the workplace.

Poha

• Include Tulsi leaves in the food offered to Lord Krishna. Kanha does not accept any offering without Tulsi.
• Prepare the Bhog with complete purity, after bathing and using desi ghee.
• While offering Bhog, have faith in your mind and chant the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” or “Jai Shri Krishna”.
