Janmashtami 2026: Light Diyas In These Specific Areas Of Your Home On Janmashtami To Reduce Problems

Special Things

Janmashtami 2026: Janmashtami will be celebrated on 4 September. Lighting diyas in specific areas in the home on this day brings happiness and prosperity in life.

Janmashtami 2026

The day of Janmashtami is considered extremely sacred, and it is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is believed that worshipping Lord Krishna and observing a fast on this day reduces devotees' troubles and bestows eternal blessings. In astrology, there are several remedies for this day that can help one attain the special grace of 'Kanha' (Lord Krishna).

Light a diya at these places in your home on the night of Janmashtami

Prayer Room (Puja Ghar)

On Janmashtami, the first and most important diya should be lit in front of 'Bal Gopal' in your puja area. Keeping an Akhand Jyoti burning throughout the night is considered extremely auspicious. Doing so brings the grace of Lord Krishna at home.

Main Entrance

The main entrance of the house is considered the gateway for the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi. On the evening of Janmashtami, light diyas on both sides of the main entrance using pure cow ghee or sesame oil, as this act brings peace and happiness at home and helps reduce financial problems.

Tulsi Plant

Tulsi is the dearest devotee of Lord Krishna. On the evening of Janmashtami, light a pure ghee diya near the Tulsi plant and do the parikrama seven times. It is also advised not to pluck Tulsi leaves on this day. Doing this brings harmony to married life and ensures the household never faces a shortage of wealth or food grains.

Safe/Wealth Storage Area

On the night of Janmashtami, after the worship rituals, place a small diya near the spot where you keep money or valuable items. This helps reduce unnecessary expenses and leads to an increase in wealth.

Kitchen

The kitchen is considered the abode of Goddess Annapurna. On the night of Janmashtami, light a diya in the kitchen near the area where water is stored. This ensures there is never a shortage of food or wealth in the home and helps maintain the good health of family members.

Peepal or Shami Tree

If there is a Peepal or Shami tree near your home, light a diya filled with mustard oil or ghee beneath it on the evening of Janmashtami. These trees are considered to be the abode of deities and ancestral spirits, and lighting a diya here helps reduce Pitra Dosh (ancestral affliction) and complete pending work.

Rooftop or Northeast Corner

Place a diya in the northeast corner of the house or at a corner of the rooftop. Doing so helps reduce Vastu defects and stress in the home.

Things to Remember while Lighting a Diya

  • Direction of the Diya: While worshipping, the flame of the diya should face the north or east.

  • Base of Akshat: Instead of placing the diya directly on the ground, place some rice grains or flower petals underneath it.

  • Sattvic mindset: Maintain a spirit of deep devotion and pure, Sattvic (virtuous) thoughts while lighting the diya.
