On this day, it is important to wake up early, take a bath, and wear blue clothing, which symbolises calmness and richness.
1. Clean the temple area and sprinkle it with Gangajal.
2. Install an idol or picture of Maa Katyayani.
3. Light a diya (lamp) with ghee in front of the Goddess and offer vermillion (Sindoor), akshat (rice), and flowers, particularly jasmine.
4. Offering bhog (food) of jaggery (Gur) to the Goddess is considered auspicious, as it symbolises prosperity and strength.
During the worship, recite the Durga Chalisa or the Durga Saptashati. Conclude the rituals by performing Aarti and distributing Prasad (blessed food).
