The temple is a Hindu Temple, and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s form Venkateswara. It is believed that Lord Venkateswara appeared at this place for saving humanity from the hardships and perils of the age of Kali Yuga. One of these donations in 1517 allowed for the gilding of the inner shrine, Ananda Nilayam. After Vijayanagara Empire’s downfall, leaders and rulers from the Kingdom of Mysore and Gadwal Samsthanam continued donations and visits to the temple.

After the East India Company’s management, the temple came under the control of the Mahants of Hathiramji Muth. After six generations under the Mahants, the temple came under TTD administration in 1933.
