Sharad Purnima is considered extremely auspicious and sacred in Hindu tradition. On this auspicious day, the Moon comes with its 16 kalas (qualities); each kala is related to human qualities and represents a complete personality. On the day of Sharad Purnima, the Moon is worshiped, and newlywed women also begin Purnimasi fasts for the year.
Sharad Purnima is also known as Ashwin Purnima and is considered highly sacred in Hindu tradition. The Moon not only contains 16 kalas, but also has some healing properties and nourishing effects for both body and mind.
On this day, devotees prepare kheer and leave it overnight under the moonlight to receive its blessings. The next morning, the kheer is considered energised by the Moon and then consumed as prasad.
This year, there will be both Bhadra and Panchak on Sharad Purnima. On 25 October 2026, Bhadra will begin from 11:55 AM to 10:52 PM. The Panchak will be from 06:28 AM to 07:22 PM.
Panchak: 06:28 AM to 07:22 PM
Bhadra: 11:55 AM to 10:52 PM
NOTE: Bhadra and Panchak together on Sharad Purnima is generally considered inauspicious, as it is believed that doing any auspicious events should be avoided during this time. During this period, spiritual activities like making kheer should be avoided during inauspicious timings (11:55 AM to 10:52 PM).
