Furthermore, if you are seeking justice that has been denied to you, you may perform Shani Pujan on the auspicious occasion of Shani Jayanti. So, let us find out when Shani Jayanti falls this year and which auspicious timings are prevailing. Additionally, in this article, we will delve into the mythological story associated with Lord Shani.
Shani Jayanti is observed every year on the Amavasya (New Moon) Tithi during the month of Jyeshtha. This year, the Amavasya Tithi commences on May 16th at 5:11 AM, and it concludes early the following morning, May 17th at 1:30 AM.
Lord Shani is the son of Lord Surya. According to mythological legends, it is said that when Lord Surya approached his wife, Chhaya, for the purpose of procreation, Chhaya was unable to withstand his intense radiance and instinctively closed her eyes. In due course, Lord Shani was born from Chhaya's womb, specifically on the Amavasya Tithi of the month of Jyeshtha. However, upon seeing him, Lord Surya was not pleased, for Shani possessed a Shyam Varna, meaning his complexion was dark. While Lord Surya radiated a fierce brilliance on one hand, Lord Shani, on the other, was dark-complexioned. Witnessing this stark contrast, Lord Surya accused his wife, Chhaya, asserting that this child could not possibly be his son. This incident is the very reason why, despite being father and son, a deep-seated enmity exists between Lord Shani and Lord Surya. Lord Shani felt deeply humiliated by this accusation. Consequently, he embarked upon a period of intense penance ( Tapasya )\ spanning many years, seeking to obtain a boon from Lord Shiva. Pleased by Lord Shani's unwavering devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked him to request a boon. Shani recounted his entire ordeal to Lord Shiva in response, the Lord granted him a boon, declaring that he would be revered as the greatest among all the Navagrahas and would serve as the ultimate Judge of this universe.
