Know what is the relation of Amavasya with full moon ?


The way VikramSamvat has 1.Chaitra 2.Vaishakh 3.Jyeshtha 4.Ashadh 5.Shravan 6.Bhadrapada as the names of the months. In the same way there are Chandramas too in every month of Vikram Samvat.

ShuklaPaksha (Sudi) - The dates from Pratipada to Purnima after Amavasya are called Shukla Paksha, which implies - That the rising moon after Amavasya is indicative of Shukla Paksha till the full moon.

KrishnaPaksha (Badi) - The dates from Poornima to Amavasya are called Krishna Paksha. Which means here that the receding moon after the full moon is indicative of Krishna Paksha till Amavasya.

If we differentiate between the full moon and the new moon then we will find Purnima comes in Shukla Paksha while Amavasya falls in Krishna Paksha. Poornima comes after Amavasya. When the moon takes its full shape. While Amavasya comes after the full moon. When the size of the moon starts to get smaller, fasting on full moon day is also done. While it is good to donate on Amavasya, it is forbidden to do auspicious work on this day, while it is good to do all auspicious work on full moon day.

What is the significance of PurnimaAmavasya?

Dates have special significance in Sanatan Dharma and Astrology. According to the Hindu calendar, the full moon and the date of Amavasya have a special effect on humans.

According to the Hindu calendar, 12 full moon and 12 new moon fall in a year. The 30 days of each month are divided into two sides of 15 days each according to the lunar period. One side is divided into Shukla Paksha and the other side is divided into Krishna Paksha. When the Shukla Paksha is going on, the last day i.e. the 15th day is called Purnima, while on the last day of Krishna Paksha it is Amavasya.

What is full Moon ?
The moon  in its full shape on a full moon day. That is, on the day the moon appears in its full size, there is a full moon on that day. Poornima definitely comes once in every month. In religious texts, full moon is especially beneficial and virtuous. In Hinduism, there is a tradition of donating, bathing and fasting on the full moon day. Kartik Purnima, Vaishakh Purnima, Magha Purnima, Sharad Purnima, Guru Purnima, Buddha Purnima are of special importance in the 12 Purnima of the year. Taking a bath in the river on the day of Amavasya and performing charity and paternity is considered beneficial. It is believed that a person should stay away from bad karma and negative thoughts on Amavasya Tithi. This year there will be a total of 14 Amavasya. The first Amavasya of the year was on 12 January.
