When is Kalashtami?

This year, the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakh will begin on 9th April at 9:19 PM and will end on 10th April at 11:15 PM. Therefore, Kalashtami will be observed on 10th April 2026. On this day, to please Lord Shiva in his form as Kaalbhairav, worship is done during auspicious timings (Muhurats). Light a Mustard Oil Lamp

On the day of Kalashtami, you can light a diya filled with mustard oil and place it before an idol or image of Baba Kaalbhairava. While worshipping, chant the mantra "Om Kalbhairavaya Namah." Doing so not only pleases Lord Kaalbhairava but also helps remove negative energies from the home.

Feeding Dogs

Lord Kaalbhairava rides upon a dog, as he holds a deep affection for dogs. On the day of Kalashtami, you may feed a dog. Performing this act is believed to eliminate all forms of suffering and distress.

Remedies Using Urad Dal (Black Gram)

In Sanatan Dharm, Urad Dal is associated with both Lord Kaalbhairava and Lord Shani. On Kalashtami, if you tie Urad Dal in a piece of black cloth and offer it in front of Kord Kaalbhairav or donate it to needy people, it helps resolve difficulties related to one's career and financial situation.

Recitation of the Bhairav Chalisa

Reciting the Bhairav Chalisa on the day of Kalashtami is considered highly auspicious and beneficial. Doing this helps you overcome enemies, resolve crises, and eliminate fear. The best time to recite the Bhairav Chalisa is at night. On the day of Kalashtami, one can recite the Kaalbhairav Chalisa 21 times.
