The festival of Vatsa Dwadashi is celebrated on the Dwadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Cow and calf are worshiped on the occasion of this holy festival. This festival also comes in the month of Kartik and then this festival is also known as Bach Baras. In Hindu religious Puranas, all the pilgrimages are in Gaumata. It is believed that the mere sight of the Gaumata gives such a virtuous result, which is not attained even by performing big sacrifices, donations etc.

Importance of Vats Dwadashi-

According to mythology, after the birth of Lord Krishna, Mata Yashoda visited and worshiped Gaumata on this day. The Gaumata whom Lord Krishna himself used to graze the forest barefoot and who had named him Gopal and to protect him had incarnated in Gokul, then it is the religion of every person to protect and worship such a cow.

On this day, women worship the Gaumata in the morning, after which they worship Tulsi plant and gooseberry. On this day, devotees also keep a fast. Coconut, jaggery, dates, sugarcane and banana should be offered as prasad in the worship of God.

On the day of Govatsa Dwadashi, women celebrate this festival for the safety of their children, longevity and happiness of the family. Bajra roti is specially made in homes on this day. On the day of Vatsa Dwadashi, instead of cow's milk, buffalo or goat's milk is used. Explaining its importance in Hindu scriptures, it has been said that on this day the women of the house worship the Gaumata. She pleases him by feeding him bread and green fodder, by doing this the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi always remain in that house and there is never any premature death in that family.
