 Amavasya has great importance in the Shraddha Paksha.  Amavasya of Ashwin month is the best time for the peace of ancestors.  Those who have not performed Shradh for their ancestors for three years, their ancestors come back from the Pitru Yoni to the Phantom Yoni, so Tripindi Shradh is performed in the pilgrimage place for their peace.  One should not hesitate in this work, otherwise, be prepared for the father's curse.
