Story of Maa Katyayani:
Maharishi Katyayan did severe penance for Goddess Adishakti. As a result he received the goddess as his daughter. Devi was born in the ashram of Maharishi Katyan. She is called Katyayani because of her daughter. When the goddess was born, the atrocities of a demon named Mahishasur had increased a lot. The demons created a ruckus in the heaven as well as the earth. The bright goddess of the Tridevas was born in the house of sage Katyayan on the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. After this Sage Katyayan worshiped the mother for three days.
After this, on the day of Dashami, Mahishasura was killed by the mother. Not only this, Shumbha and Nishumbha had attacked the heavenly world. At the same time, the throne of Indra was also snatched. Not only this, the Navagrahas were also taken hostage. The demons had also captured the power of fire and air. Humiliated from heaven, the demons drove the deities out. Then all the deities went to the shelter of the goddess and prayed to her to free them from the tyranny of the asuras. Mother killed these asuras and freed everyone from their terror.
