Mangala Gauri is an auspicious fast that is traditionally observed in the Hindu Dharm, which is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Gauri, a kind form of Goddess Parvati. This sacred fast is observed every Tuesday during the Shravan month and is considered extremely beneficial for married women. This fast is observed by married women to seek the blessings for a prosperous married life, longevity of their husband, prosperity in the family, and good health.
The word "Mangala" stands for auspiciousness and well-being, while "Gauri" signifies Goddess Parvati in her kindest, radiant, and compassionate form. Goddess Mangala Gauri symbolises the divine energy that blesses devotees with marital bliss, offspring, prosperity, and spiritual strength.
Several devotees observe this fast in different parts of India, but it is considered especially significant in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and several other regions. Newly married women observe this fast for the first five years after marriage as a family tradition. Unmarried girls and elderly women also observe this fast to seek divine blessings for a compatible life partner, family happiness, and overall well-being.
This fast is observed with proper rituals, as it is considered an act of devotion, self-discipline, gratitude, and faith. Devotees wake up early in the morning, observe a fast, perform puja, recite the Mangala Gauri Vrat Katha, and offer sixteen sacred items (Shodashopachara) to the Goddess. Women also gather in groups to sing devotional songs and perform traditional rituals, making this a beautiful blend of spirituality and bonding.

First Tuesday: 28 July 2026
Second Tuesday: 4 August 2026
Third Tuesday: 11 August 2026
