According to the Panchang, this is said to be the second and last lunar eclipse of the year, occurring on 28 August. It will begin at 6:55 AM in the morning and will end around 12:30 PM.

Sawan Purnima 2026 Auspicious time

According to the Panchang, the Purnima Tithi of the Shravan Shukla Paksha will begin on 27 August 2026 at 09:08 AM and will end on 28 August at 09:48 AM. As per the Udayatithi, Sawan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan will be observed on 28th August. There are two auspicious times for Ganga snan and donations on this day. Brahma Muhurt is best for Ganga Snan from 04:28 AM to 05:12 AM. Abhijeet Muhurt for donation will be from 12:14 AM to 01:05 PM. The auspicious time to tie Rakhi is from 06:23 AM to 09:48 AM, because after 09:48 the Purnima Tithi will end.

Sawan Purnima is considered extremely auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and the Moon. On this day, Ganga Snan, donations, chanting, and doing penance bring virtuous results. It is believed that fasting on this day brings happiness, prosperity, and family happiness. 

Sawan Purnima Puja Ritual

• On this day, wake up in the morning during Brahma Muhurta and take a bath in the Ganga River or at home (water mixed with Gangajal). 
• After bathing, wear clean clothes and take a pledge to fast.
• Install the idol of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in your home temple. Offer them yellow flowers, Akshat, and sandalwood.
• Offer food to Lord Vishnu along with Tulsi leaves and light a ghee diya.
• After this, listen to or read the story of Lord Satyanarayan. Offer Arghya to the Moon in the evening during the Pradosh period. 
• It is believed that Chandra Dosha is removed by offering Arghya mixed with milk, water, and Akshat to the Moon.

Significance of Ganga Snan and Donations

Donations are considered extremely significant on Sawan Purnima. Donating food, clothes, sesame seeds, ghee, and money on this day brings immense virtuous results, which are equivalent to many yagyas. If you cannot go for a Ganga Snan, then take a bath at home by adding Gangajal to the water and feed food to the needy people. This time there is Sukarma Yoga and Panchak on Purnima, but since it starts on Thursday, Panchak is not considered to have any inauspicious effect.
