Ambubachi mela happens in kamakhya temple in guwahti every year but due to covid19 the temple committee has concealed the mela this year. But the puja will happen by strictly following covid 19 rules. The administration has banned the entrance of the devotees in the temple and no permission is given to any devotees to enter the temple during mela days and only rituals like puja will be performed in the temple.

The ambubaci puja will begin on June 22nd at 02:06 pm till June 26th at 02:30.

District magistrate of kamrup metropolitan district surged the commissioner of police in Guwahati to not allow any devotees to enter the temple except the living residents of nilachalhil to go in the temple which is uphill during the mentioned dates 22nd June till 30th June and Guwahati railway station has also been said to take necessary action for the devotees which may visit the temple.

And even if someone reach the temple steps will be taken to return the devotes their original destination. The temple has been closed since 13th of May; however the rituals are still being performed by the priests of the temple

Ambubachi Mela: This mela is also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility festival since it is closely associated with Tantric Shakti cult prevalent in eastern parts of India. The temple remains closed for three days during the mela for it is believed that the goddess rests for three days like the traditional women's menstrual seclusion. During these three days some restrictions are observed by the devotees like not cooking, not performing puja or reading holy books, no farming etc. After three days devi Kamakhya is bathed and other rituals are performed to ensure that the devi retrieves her purity.Then the doors of the temple are reopened and prasad is distributed. On the fourth day the devotees are allowed to enter the temple and worship devi Kamakhya.

The prasad is distributed in two forms – Angodak and Angabastra. Angodak literally means the fluid part of the body - water from the spring and Angabastra literally means the cloth covering the body - a piece of the red cloth used to cover the stone yoni during the days of menstruation.
