The space where the pooja is to be performed should be cleaned neatly. On a “chauki”, a wooden stool, a clean red cloth should be spread and then the idol of Lord Ganesha should be placed upon it. If you don’t have an idol of Lord Gajanana you can place a picture of Him. Once the Lord Ganesha has been placed, an earthen lamp should be lit in front of him. Then fruits, flowers, durva grass, sacred cotton thread, betel leaf, coconut, and sweets should be dedicated to him. Try to also offer Him, his most favorite sweet, Modak. Post this make sure to sing prayers in praise of Lord Ganesha. According to many people, if one chant “Om Gan Ganpataye Namah” during the pooja it could prove to be very fruitful, so make sure to chant it along with the “Shree Ganesha Strotam”.
