Sarva Pitru Amavasya has a special significance in Sanatan Dharma. On this special occasion, Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan are performed for the ancestors. During Pitru Paksha, the ancestors come to Earth and after Shradh and Tarpan on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the ancestors return to their world. This year Sarva Pitru Amavasya will be celebrated on Sunday, 21 September, which is the last and most important day of Pitru Paksha. Doing charity on this day gives infallible results and blessings of ancestors.
- On the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Har Ki Pauri Haridwar is suitable for Tarpan of ancestors, as it is one of the 4 holy cities and the Mokshadayini Ganga also has an influence from here. On this day, rituals like Shradh, Pinddaan and Tarpan are performed for the ancestors, which satisfy them and bring happiness, prosperity and peace in the family. It is also a holy occasion for those ancestors whose death anniversary is unknown.
- Haridwar is made up of two words, Har + Dwar, here Har means Shri Hari Vishnu Ji. According to beliefs, it is said that Lord Vishnu Ji's foot had fallen at Har Ki Pauri, so it is called Har Ki Pauri. Apart from this, Haridwar is one of those 4 holy pilgrimages, where a drop of Amrit fell. Haridwar is also the place from where the holy Ganges flows. All these qualities make this pilgrimage more sacred.
