Description

What is Pitru Paksha?

  • In Hinduism, Pitru Paksha is considered a special period to perform Shraddh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the ancestors. It is believed that during this time the ancestors themselves come to earth. During Pitru Paksha, every person performs Shraddh and Tarpan on the same date according to the death date of their ancestors. For example, if an ancestor died on Chaturthi Tithi, then their Shraddh and Tarpan will be performed on Chaturthi Tithi in Pitru Paksha. Similarly, Shraddh is performed in Pitru Paksha according to the date on which the ancestor died.
