What is Pitru Paksha?
- In Hinduism, Pitru Paksha is considered a special period to perform Shraddh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the ancestors. It is believed that during this time the ancestors themselves come to earth. During Pitru Paksha, every person performs Shraddh and Tarpan on the same date according to the death date of their ancestors. For example, if an ancestor died on Chaturthi Tithi, then their Shraddh and Tarpan will be performed on Chaturthi Tithi in Pitru Paksha. Similarly, Shraddh is performed in Pitru Paksha according to the date on which the ancestor died.

Pitru Shanti Puja in Gaya
- Gaya Dham is considered a special spiritual site for Pitra Karma, Shraddh, and Pind Daan. According to religious belief, Lord Shri Ram also performed Pind Daan and Shraddh rituals for his father, King Dasharath, in Gaya Dham. The story which is related to the arrival of Goddess Sita and Lakshman ji in Gaya also holds special significance in the religious tradition of Gaya. This is why performing Shraddh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the ancestors in Gaya Dham is considered significant. Holy places like Falgu River, Vishnupad Temple, and Akshayavat in Gaya are also connected with ancestral deeds. The importance of Gaya and the Shraddh rituals performed here are described in the Puranas.
During Pitru Paksha, Myjyotish is organizing a special Pitru Shanti Mahapuja on 16 Tithis in Gaya Dham. In this Mahapuja, Shraddh, Tarpan, Pind Daan, and special puja rituals will be performed for the ancestors as per the rituals.
Shraddha Puja Vidhi
The ritual begins with a sacred Sankalp and Tarpan dedicated to the ancestors. Offerings are then made as part of the traditional Shraddha process.
As part of the traditional Panchabhog/Bhog offering, food may be offered for:
