Pitru Devo Namo Namah.
The last date of Krishna Paksha of every month falls on Amavasya Tithi and hence the day of Amavasya comes. As per Hindu mythology, Amavasya is called the New Moon day. It is also said that the spirits are considered to be more effective on this day. Hence it is advised that one should keep away from evil deeds and negative thoughts on Chaturdashi and Amavasya (new moon) days to attain happiness and peace within oneself. Pitru Daan, Pitru Visarjan or donation in the name of Pitru for the mental satisfaction of their soul is also considered auspicious.
Of all the Amavasya (new moon), Darshan Amavasya is considered to be the most important in Hindu culture as per the lunisolar calendar.
On Amavasya, special attention needs to be given to religious activities like chanting mantras, worshipping gods, worshiping deities and performing rituals, etc. Although, one cannot see the moon in the sky; On this day special Puja is performed to the Moon God. Worshiping ancestors (Pitru) is also auspicious and glorious, many Tantric Pujas are also performed at night during Amavasya. Moon God is also considered to be the nourisher of the lives of birds and animals, hence, Puja performed on Darshan Amavasya protects the souls of these creatures and makes their life path easy.
