In Varanasi, special prayers and rituals are offered to Lord Kaal Bhairav. He is known as the Kotwal of Kashi (Varanasi), as the responsibility of protecting the city is believed to be in his hands. Kaal Bhairav is an incarnation of Lord Shiva's fierce and just form. It is said that he manifested from Lord Shiva's third eye. In Sanatan Dharm, he is also considered the presiding deity of Tantra and Mantra.
This temple is one of the oldest temples in Varanasi and a major centre of faith for devotees. According to religious beliefs, all the wishes of a person who worships Kaal Bhairav with a pure heart are fulfilled. With the grace of Lord Kaal Bhairav, fear, negativity, and obstacles are removed from a person's life, and happiness and prosperity are received.
