Description

In Hinduism, Paush Purnima is considered an extremely sacred, praiseworthy, and auspicious day. It is the propitious day when the Sun God, residing in the month of Paush, bestows his radiance and energy, and the full moon purifies the mind and soul with its cooling (Sheetal )rays. This divine confluence of the sun and moon removes darkness, obstacles, and poverty from life, paving the way for happiness, peace, and prosperity.

The Shri Lakshmi-Narayana Yagya performed on this sacred day is considered the best means to attain the four purusharthas (goals of human life): Dharm (righteousness), Arth (wealth), Kam (desire), and Moksha (liberation).

Lord Shri Narayana (Vishnu) is the preserver of creation, the remover of obstacles, and the bestower of liberation, while Goddess Lakshmi is the deity of wealth, prosperity, good fortune, and abundance. The combined worship of these two deities brings lasting wealth, a happy family life, and spiritual progress.

Taking a dip in the Ganga or performing a sacred bath on Paush Purnima, followed by performing the Shri Lakshmi-Narayana Yagya with devotion, alleviates financial difficulties, debts, business obstacles, planetary afflictions, and negative influences. The offerings made into the sacred fire of the Yagya, accompanied by mantras, purify the environment and infuse the devotee's life with positive energy and divine grace.

Chanting mantras such as Vishnu Sahasranam, Shri Suktam,

“Om Namo Narayanaya,” and

“Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah”

During the Yagya yields special benefits. Finally, offering kheer (rice pudding), performing aarti (ritual of light), and giving donations of food, clothing, and sesame seeds multiplies the merit of the Yagya manifold.

On this day, performing Satyanarayana Katha, Pitru Tarpan (ancestral rites), and acts of charity bring peace to the ancestors and mitigate ancestral curses. Shakambhari Jayanti, symbolising the grace of the goddess of food, nature, and prosperity, is also celebrated on this auspicious day. The Magh Mela also commences on this day.

The Shri Lakshmi-Narayana Yagya is not merely a means of acquiring wealth, but a sacred medium for righteousness, service, harmony, virtuous conduct, and spiritual purification. This Yagya (ritual) brings balance to life, fulfils desires, and ushers in lasting happiness, peace, and prosperity in the home and family.
