A person observing the Ekadashi fast should wake up early in the morning, specifically in Brahma Muhurat, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Afterwards, purify the worshipping area with Gangajal to remove negativity and place an idol or a picture of Lord Vishnu. Light a ghee diya, offer yellow flowers, jaggery (Gud), and chickpeas (Chane) as Bhog, and also include Tulsi leaves in the offering, as it is considered very sacred to Vishnu. Then, perform Lord Vishnu’s aarti. On this day, offering charity to the needy people also has great significance.
It is said that whoever is fasting should avoid eating grains on the day of Ekadashi. Those who are not fasting should also consume sattvic meals. Generally, only fruits, milk, and water are consumed during the fast. Throughout the day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu with dedication and devotion. While observing a fast, one should maintain a positive attitude and refrain from using harsh or abusive language.
