In the Hindu tradition, the day of Sharad Purnima is considered extremely sacred. It is believed that it is the only day when the Moon comes with its 16 kalas (qualities).
On this day, devotees prepare kheer and leave it overnight under the moonlight. The next morning, the kheer is considered energised by the Moon and then consumed and shared as prasad.
In astrology, consuming kheer on Sharad Purnima strengthens the position of the Moon in the Birth Chart. It is said that Milk and rice are also associated with the Moon, and if you prepare kheer on this day and donate it to needy people, it helps remove obstacles caused by the Moon in the birth chart.
The Moon has some healing and nourishing properties for both body and mind, and on Purnima, the Moon is fully powered, and its rays drip nectar(amrit).
Kheer is prepared and left the whole night under the moonlight, and then consumed as prasad as it cures stomach-related diseases.
On this day, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped, who is the ruling deity of Venus. Offering kheer on Sharad Purnima is said to bring the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi with wealth, prosperity, and happiness in life.
Doing these rituals helps one strengthen the Moon and Venus in their birth chart.
