According to the scriptures, on this auspicious day, Lord Vishnu manifested as Mohini to attract the Asuras to protect the amrit during the time of Amrit Manthan, which is why this fast is named Mohini Ekadashi. On this auspicious day, plucking Tulsi leaves or watering is strictly prohibited. Also, on Dwadashi, Tulsi is not watered, nor leaves plucked. Tulsi is known to be the beloved devotee of Lord Vishnu and is also considered to be a form of Goddess Lakshmi. On the day of Ekadashi, Tulsi observed a nirjala fast for Lord Vishnu.

Those who are observing the Ekadashi fast should only consume fruits, and those who are not fasting should also consume Satvik food. On this very auspicious day, consuming tamasic food, such as meat, alcohol, garlic, and onions, is avoided.
In the Hindu Dharm, worshipping on this day is considered extremely auspicious and beneficial. One should choose the right direction for worship. The best direction for worshipping is the north-east direction, as it brings immense blessings of Lord Vishnu and direct merit. It is said that worshipping facing the south direction could be harmful.
