Do's and Don'ts During the Sutak Period?

  • Offering prayers is prohibited in temples.
  • Cooking and eating food are avoided during the sutak period.
  • During this period chanting mantras will be beneficial.
  • Bathing and charity hold special significance after the eclipse.

When will Holi be celebrated?

In Hindu Dharm, several fasts and festivals are celebrated, and each festival is dedicated to different deities. Similarly, Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalguna. The festival of Holi symbolises the victory of good over evil, truth, and devotion over ego. Every year, Holika Dahan is celebrated on the full moon day of the Phalguna month. This year, the Purnima tithi of the Phalguna month will begin at 5:55 pm on 2 March and end at 5:07 pm on 3 March. The auspicious timings will be between 6:21 pm and 8:50 pm on 3 March 2026. As Holika Dahan is celebrated a day before Holi, but due to the Chandra Grahan, it is not considered auspicious. Therefore, the Holika Dahan will either be celebrated on 2nd March in the evening or on 3rd March early in the morning before the sutak period. According to the panchang, Holi will be celebrated on 4th March 2026.

Religious Significance of Holi

There are many mythological stories behind the festival of Holi. Some say that on this day, Lord Krishna played Holi with Radha Rani for the first time. And the other story says that Lord Vishnu himself appeared to protect devotee Prahlad. Another story says that Kansa sent Putana to kill the Baal Krishna, but Krishna deceitfully killed Putana, leading to the celebration of Holi by the people of Braj.
