Every year, Ahoi Ashtami is observed on the Ashtami of the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month, which falls straight after Karwa Chauth and eight days before Diwali. On this day, all the mothers observe a fast for the good health and bright future of their children. This is also a Nirjala vrat and is completed after offering prayers to the stars. On the other hand, some women break this fast after sighting the Moon. But it is difficult to follow as the moon rises late at night on Ahoi Ashtami.
On Ahoi Ashtami, first offer prayers to Lord Shiva. After that, recite or listen to the Ahoi Ashtami fasting story. Hold seven types of grains in your hand while listening to the story, and feed them to a cow after the story is completed.
In 2026, the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Kartik begins at 02:51 PM on 1st November and ends at 01:10 PM on 2nd November 2026. Therefore, the Ahoi Ashtami fast will be observed on Sunday, 1st November 2026.
Auspicious Muhurat for Ahoi Ashtami Puja is from 05:36 PM to 06:53 PM.
Sanjh (evening) time for sighting Stars: 06:00 PM.
Moonrise time on Ahoi Ashtami: 11:40 PM
According to tradition, this fast is observed with some rules. When observing the fast, working with soil or using any sharp objects is considered inauspicious. Use a steel pot while offering prayers to the stars. Maintain positivity in the environment and don't let any negative thoughts come to your mind, as this will not give the benefits of the fast.
