Nakshatras: In Vedic Astrology, the movement of planets and Nakshatras holds special significance. The movement of these celestial bodies affects an individual's life. While the movement of planets can have auspicious or inauspicious effects on a person’s life, the calculation of Nakshatras influences an individual's nature and lifestyle. Vedic Astrology describes a total of 27 Nakshatras. According to ancient beliefs, these 27 Nakshatras are considered the daughters of Daksha Prajapati. In Vedic Astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs used for astrological calculations, and the sky is divided into 27 Nakshatras. The 9 planets are distributed among these 27 Nakshatras, with each planet ruling over 3 Nakshatras.
According to Vedic Astrology, a group of stars in the sky is called a Nakshatra. Astrological calculations are based on the computation of Nakshatras, and these Nakshatras are connected to the path of the Moon. The Moon completes one orbit around the Earth in approximately 27 days. Within a month, the Moon traverses through various groups of stars, forming 27 different star groups during one complete orbit. Just as the Sun moves from Aries to Pisces each month, the Moon moves through all 27 Nakshatras. This period is known as Nakshatra Masa. Thus, a Nakshatra month consists of 27 days. Let’s learn more about these 27 Nakshatras in detail.
What is a Nakshatra?
The terms "Naksha," which denotes a map, and "Tara," which denotes a star, are the origins of the word "Nakshatra." The Rig Veda, Yajurveda, and Atharva Veda all mention this Vedic term, which describes the mapping of stars. 'Nakshatra' in Indian astrology refers to constellations or groups of stars with the moon at a specific angle that affect a person's life from the moment of birth.
The zodiac signs of those born under each nakshatra are influenced by the Moon's position within it. The Moon, which is in charge of the nakshatras, transitions between the signs of the zodiac in approximately 28 days. Furthermore, the Moon is roughly 13 degrees and 20 minutes long and spends around a day in each nakshatra. Four padas (three degrees and twenty minutes each) are created from the nakshatras. Each pada is the ninth division, or "navamsa," of each zodiac, and is governed by its own ruling planet.
Every one of the 27 Nakshatra symbols corresponds to a ruling deity with distinct attributes and traits. It is thought that these gods have a strong influence over people who are born under their nakshatra. Each nakshatra is also linked to a ruling planet, animal, or symbol.
