According to the Vedic calendar, Ahoi Ashtami is observed annually on the Ashtami of the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month, which falls after four days of Karwa Chauth and eight days before Diwali. On this day, mothers fast for the health and bright future of their children. This fast is observed without water and is completed after offering prayers to the stars. On the other hand, some women break this fast after sighting the moon. However, it is difficult to follow as the moon rises late in the night on Ahoi Ashtami.
On Ahoi Ashtami, first offer prayers to Lord Shiva. After that, recite or listen to the Ahoi Ashtami fasting story. Hold seven types of grains in your hand while listening to the story, and after the story is complete, feed them to a cow.
The Ashtami Tithi of the Krshna Paksha of the month of Kartik begins at 12:24 AM on 13th October 2025. This Tithi will end on 11:09 AM on 14th October 2025. Therefore, the fast will be observed on Monday, 13th October 2025.
Auspicious Muhrat for Ahoi Ashtami Puja is from 5:53 PM to 7:08 PM.
Sanjh (evening) time for sighting Stars - 6:17 PM.
Moonrise time on Ahoi Ashtami - 11:20 PM
According to the traditions, this fast is observed with some caution. During this fast, any work with soil or using any sharp objects is considered inauspicious. While offering prayers to the stars on Ahoi Ashtami, only a steel pot should be used. While observing, maintain positivity in the environment and don't let any negative thoughts come to your mind, as this will not give the benefits of the fast.
