The Kamakhya temple is a very known and respected temple dedicated to mother Baglamukhi. This temple is situated in the western parts of Guwahati, Assam. The temple is considered to be a symbol of good energy and forces. The Baglamukhi puja is considered to be very auspicious and powerful.
This temple is one of the fifty-one Shakti Pithas. Being the oldest temple, it is also known as Kamrup-Kamakhya. The location where the temple is situation is said to be the exact location where the womb and vagina of Lord Sati fell.
The significance of Kamakhya Baglamukhi Path has been clearly and vividly elaborated in many ancient texts. Goddess Baglamukhi is also called as Pitambaradevi, Shatrubuddhivinashini and Bhramastra Roopini.
The goddess sits in a golden throne in the midst of an ocean, dressed in yellow clothes and has golden skin complexion and is adorned with golden and yellow coloured garlands and ornaments. Goddess Baglamukhi is symbol of yellow colour and that is why yellow is considered to be an important part in her worship ritual. Due to her yellow coloured clothes and adornments, she came to be known as Pitambari devi.
